Shaping Public’s Opinion Through Media

Descripción

The influence of mass media on public perception is widely acknowledged, yet few know the incredible degree to which this influence occurs. Since what the majority of people know is heavily shaped by media technologies, mass media are used to lead audiences into forming certain opinions and to make their decisions on the bases of those opinions. Mass media decide what type of information will be given to the public, in what amount and how exactly will be given. A persons perception of such matters as civil rights, economy, immigration, wars and welfare are significantly affected by the manner and extent of media coverage. This research project consists of four chapters: Chapter 1 offers an overview of those scholars who exposed in their works the evidences similar to those presented by Herman and Chomsky in Manufacturing Consent (1988) and based their investigation on Herman and Chomskys theoretical and ideological perspective; Chapter 2 should be regarded as the framework of this research in which five filters of propaganda model through which the information pass will be examined in detail.
